TROY, NY — The Troy Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), a historic and esteemed nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Irish heritage and promoting community welfare, is recently revitalized and is actively seeking new members. The Troy community is invited to join the Troy AOH as they march for the first time in Albany's St. Patrick's Day Parade, on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2 PM.

After a period of strategic planning and reorganization, the Troy AOH is prepared to empowering the community once again.

After being hailed as the fastest growing AOH division in the U.S., the Troy AOH has grown to 115 members and has almost tripled membership since 2023.

The City of Troy will be presenting a proclamation commending the Troy AOH at the Troy City Council meeting on March 6 at 7 PM, 433 River Street, Troy, NY.

Established in 1872, the Troy AOH has historically been at the forefront of fostering unity, celebrating Irish culture, and serving the Troy community for many years. Rooted in the principles of their motto “Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity,” the AOH has a rich heritage of preserving and promoting Irish history, traditions, and values.

The Troy AOH DIvision 8 was named after James Connolly, an Irish republican, socialist, and trade union leader who resided in and organized the labor movement in Troy, New York, for a period of time. Connolly also played an integral role in forming the Irish Citizens Army and led the Easter Rising of 1916. The Troy AOH is chartered by the National AOH which was founded in NYC in 1836.

As a member of the Troy Division, you will be part of a storied organization with a profound connection to Ireland's ancient past. Membership in the Troy AOH is open to individuals of Irish descent and of the Catholic faith, who share an appreciation for Irish culture and a commitment to community service. Rensselaer County is considered to have the highest per capita of Irish descents in the USA, with a population estimated to be 25% with Irish ancestors.

PJ Higgitt, President of Troy AOH, stated “The Troy AOH is excited about this new chapter and invites Irish-catholic community members in Rensselaer County who share a love for Irish culture and a commitment to community service to join our ranks.”
